McIntosh Lodge is a beautiful little family run lodge on famous Canyon Lake, which is north of Vermilion Bay and west of Dryden. There are a few Lake Trout in Canyon Lake but the lake does not have a viable Lake Trout population to target them. Fortunately, John is licensed to have boats on Gordon Lake, which is a rarely fished backcountry portage lake. Gordon Lake is a 200-foot deep little jewel that is just boiling with Lake Trout. The Lake Trout fishing is so spectacular that he has guests that stay at his camp and walk the short portage every day. Lake Trout are the dominant species in the lake and are common in the 1 to 5-pound range but tons of trout in the 6 to 12-pound range get caught and released. McIntosh Lodge has super nice lakefront housekeeping pine cabins with a beautiful main lodge for card playing or watching the big game on satellite TV. Their rates are very reasonable. You can always take a break from Lake Trout fishing and hit the fantastic Muskie, Walleye and bass fishing on Canyon Lake.
Indian Lake Lodge is located on the famous Indian Chain of Lakes, which is north of Vermilion Bay, Ontario and not far from the Manitoba border. From their lodge you have nine lakes to boat through. There is one special lake that is totally different than the others. When you enter Boulder Lake right away you will see a drastic change in structure. Next to it is Little Boulder Lake and both are deep rocky lakes and stuffed with Lake Trout. The thing about these lakes is not many people fish for Lake Trout because the Indian Chain of Lakes has a well known reputation for awesome Walleye and Muskie fishing. The guests that do fish for Lake Trout are very successful. The Lake Trout are most common in the 2 to 5 pound range. This water system is big enough to support good size Lake Trout up to 20 pounds. In the winter the trout are free so swim and feed and by spring they all travel back to Boulder Lake where in the summer they are concentrated. Indian Lake Lodge has cozy lakefront cottages that vary in size for small and lodge groups. They offer fantastic 18-foot fishing boat rentals with electric start motors and electric trolling motors. They also have fishing for Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, Musky, Northern Pike and Perch.
